In addition to performing, Dr. Mandel is also an active and ardent music
educator. He is currently Associate-Faculty as Instructor of Saxophone at
McKendree University in Lebanon, IL where he teaches the saxophone studio
and saxophone ensemble in classical and jazz styles.

Dr. Mandel is also Band Director (grades 4 through 8) at the prestigious
Countryside School in Champaign, IL. In addition to recruiting and maintaining
the band program, Dr. Mandel also arranges music and gives group lessons.
The band gives performances in the community, which has included a concert
at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, and regular fall and spring
concerts. Dr. Mandel also directs a summer band program for middle school
students in the community.

Dr. Mandel’s teaching experiences include giving numerous master classes
and saxophone clinics for elementary, middle, and high school students in
Southern and Central Illinois, Northwest Ohio, and Texas. He has also taught
at Illinois Summer Youth Music and through the University of Illinois School of
Music Outreach. Dr. Mandel maintains a large and competitively successful
private music studio. His studio includes middle school and high school
students on saxophone, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. His
students have placed well at summer music camps and regional festivals, and
have success in their local band programs, and often receive high honors and
praises.

Dr. Mandel has been honored with grant funding for excellence in teaching in
Champaign, IL, as well a nomination for the Outstanding Graduate Assistant
Teaching Award at Bowling Green State University as Instructor of Single
Reeds Methods.
